Carl Czerny

(1791-1857)

Carl Czerny

Czerny was one of the most successful piano teachers of all time. He was Beethoven’s most famous student and became his life-long friend. His most famous student was Franz Liszt. Czerny, himself was a fine pianist who played the premier of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto in Vienna after Beethoven became deaf. He wrote thousands of short piano pieces as exercises for his students. We still use dozens of his books in teaching piano today.
